SMT Stencils: Edge Reinforcement Technology and Increased Maximum Stencil Size

The SMT stencils direction is one of the priorities for our company. To improve the service, we strive to introduce new technologies that are relevant for our customers. Recently, stencils made of thin steel (80 and 100 microns) are especially in demand. However, the stencil mesh can quickly break because of their mounting to the frame system and frequent replacement. We recommend choosing an additional service - Edge reinforcement of the stencil  to avoid such situations.

We have developed and implemented a technology for reinforcing stencil edges without the use of resistance welding. The adhesive used to attach the reinforcement edges is specially designed for bonding stainless steel. The connection withstands repeated exposure to cleaning solutions, alcohol, elevated temperatures and stencil replacements on the frame system, as confirmed by conducted tests. Reinforcement of the stencil edge can be done on four or two sides, depending on the type of frame system.

Reinforced edge allows:

• to reduce the likelihood of mesh damage for stencils made of thin materials;

• to increase the torsional rigidity of the stencil, which can be used for stencils fixed on both sides.

Reinforcement of the stencil edge is recommended for all stencils with a thickness of 0.080 mm, in some cases for stencils with a thickness of 0.100 mm.

For customers using large PCB panels, we have increased the maximum stencil size. This offer is especially relevant for manufacturers of LED technology.

Framed stencils are made of aluminum profiles with a mesh with the following parameters:

• Maximum frame dimensions - 740 × 1500 mm;

• Maximum dimensions of the steel sheet - 610 × 1300 mm;

• Available steel thicknesses - 0.100 mm, 0.130 mm, 0.150 mm.
